“In a very real sense, transportation defines us. It defines life’s limits, its potential, its reality.

“But I am concerned that we have been proceeding in a piecemeal manner – as if transportation development could be pursued in isolation from larger consequences and without full consideration of the impact upon our lives today and our potential in the future.

“Clearly, planning for the 400th Anniversary of the settlement at Jamestown in 2007 is an immediate priority, but the future of the Virginia tourism industry in general, a vital component of the state’s economy, will be directly influenced by the vitality and efficiency of Virginia’s transportation system.

“Virginians for Better Transportation represents an important step forward in helping Virginians understand the crisis, but more importantly in finding the solutions to our transportation challenges.”
